Curaçao: Private Try Scuba Diving at Caracasbaai

Meet Your Private Instructor

Your experience starts at our dive center in Jan Thiel at 08:00 am. We welcome you with coffee, tea or water and introduce you to your private instructor. We take the time to make sure your scuba equipment fits properly and comfortably.

For groups of 1–3 participants, you will have one private instructor. For groups of 4 or more, a second instructor joins at no extra cost.

We spend approximately 45 minutes preparing for the dive at the dive center. With your instructor guiding you step by step, you set up your own scuba equipment and learn what the main parts are and how they work. We also go through the most important underwater hand signals and the basic skills you will practice in the water. There is plenty of time to ask questions.

When everything is ready, we load the equipment into our vehicle and drive together to Caracasbaai.

Take Your First Breaths Underwater

At Caracasbaai, we walk into the water together and start in the shallows, where you can still stand. Once your mask and fins are on, you first get used to breathing through the regulator and practice a few basic skills, such as recovering your regulator.

When breathing underwater feels comfortable, we move into a diving position and you start to see how the air in your BCD and your own breathing affect your buoyancy. You have time to practice this in shallow water with your instructor right beside you.

Your First Scuba Dive

When everything is going well and you feel comfortable, we gradually begin your first real dive. Your instructor stays with you throughout the dive, and we build up the depth slowly. The maximum depth is 12 metres (39 feet), but reaching a certain depth is never the goal. Your comfort and safety always come first.

You will spend approximately 30 to 60 minutes underwater, with 60 minutes as the maximum. How long the dive lasts depends on your air consumption, comfort and the diving conditions. We end the dive at 50 bar at the latest, or sooner if your air consumption, comfort, diving conditions or safety require it.

Back at the Dive Center

After the dive, we drive back to our dive center in Jan Thiel. With a coffee, tea or water, we can talk about your first dive together and the fish and other marine life you saw underwater.
